Ecuador: Ruta del Sol

Posted by: perry on 05/07/2009 12:03 PM (Read: 895)
So I left Quito on my own and headed towards the coast. My route took me, first up and up to some high elevations, then down down down into the heat and humidity. Once on the coast I followed theRuta del Sel (the route of the sun). Austin stayed behind in Quito and said he was going to leave on the following Tuesday. I didn't want to wait for him and I expected that Tuesday surely wouldn't come true. So I had a bit of time to travel on my own, which added a nice bit of variety to my travels.

Quito: Hi Ariel

Posted by: perry on 04/24/2009 05:34 PM (Read: 879)
After my parents left Ecuador it was just a short few days before Ariel would arrive before going to the US for a few short weeks. So we decided to stick around and see our long lost travel partner. Ariel left us (or maybe we left her) in Guatemala. Well, she wanted to stay for a few reasons and we left for no good reason (I remember the blur of two bicycles and their cyclists making it from Guatemala City to Panama City in less than a week just to find out there was no way in hell we could make it to Colombia in time for Austin to meet Arian). So we had some catching up to do, some jokes to tell, and some adventures to go on. Read more...

Ecuador: Hi Mom, Hi Dad

Posted by: perry on 04/02/2009 05:01 PM (Read: 650)
Austin and I entered Ecuador with a date to see my parents in the capital, Quito. We entered in Tulcan and worked our way south traveling through the mountains, stopping at hot springs, bombing great hills, checking out waterfalls, and eventually got there in time to meet up with them. My parents had a one week tour through Ecuador and we managed to meet up with them for a few days before and after their tour. During the week we also had our own adventures with our friend Marcela (who we met in Samuc Champay, Guatemala).

Pasto and Leaving Colombia

Posted by: perry on 03/12/2009 07:51 PM (Read: 829)
We spent the night just outside of Pasto after being dropped off at a gas station by a couple of truckers. The ride to the city was just a short downhill ride and we had finally arrived in our last stop on our way through Colombia. We arrived on the 27th of February and needed to leave the country by the 6th of March. So, because of our good luck in hitchhiking we managed to shave a few days off our traveling which enabled us to actually see Pasto rather than just pass by. We ended up spending five nights there. Cali, The Salsa Capital

Posted by: perry on 03/02/2009 01:02 PM (Read: 727)
We had been looking forward to going to Cali for quite a few reasons. Austin had been dreaming about taking Salsa lessons in the salsa capital of the world and I was interested in checking out the city that everyone had been telling me about. We have been running out of time in Colombia (60 day visas for a large country like Colombia sucks), so we only had a few days that we could spend. Read more...

El Eje Cafeterro

Posted by: perry on 02/23/2009 02:44 PM (Read: 633)
Our journey through El Eje Cafeterro (The Coffee Axis) took us through the cities of Manizales, Pereira, and Armenia as well as coffee plantations, thermal baths, a punk/ska/hard core concert, and even sleeping for a night along the highway in front of a wood furniture maker. From the first cup of coffee to the final downhill to the Cauca valley we tried to see it all and missed a lot at the same time.

Five Days in Medellin

Posted by: perry on 02/07/2009 03:50 PM (Read: 669)
We went to Medellin looking forward to many things. We'd heard lots of great things about the city including the good chance that we'd be able to go to a punk concert. But what we ended up doing is completely different. Read more...
